2011 saw Craobh Rua in England during March for The St. Patrick’s Day Tour. Then off to the USA in April for a tour with concert performances in 9 different venues in 7 states in 10 days as part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland’s year of Irish arts in America. It was wonderful to meet up with some old friends, meet some new ones and to include a few new venues on our tours.
It was great to return to play a few of the festivals and summer schools that we had not been to in quite a number of years. There was The Girvan Folk Festival in Scotland in May. Then in July to the USA to teach and play a few concerts at Common Ground on the Hill, MD and Chincoteague Island, VA. This was followed by 10 days in Lorient, Brittany for the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in August.
We had a very enjoyable time playing some new places and festivals. In September Craobh Rua was in Brussels for Culture Night, then to Cork for The Cork Folk Festival and off to England in October for The Helmsley Folk Weekend 2011.
In November we were invited to play a few sets and songs along with a host of other guests on the Folk Club Programme on BBC Radio Ulster for their Christmas Special, which was recorded during Children in Need Week and for broadcast on Christmas Eve.
We finished the year with a thoroughly enjoyable lunchtime concert at Queens University Belfast in December.
We would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the members of Craobh Rua to thank you, our agents, organisers, audiences, family and friends for your support and interest in the band throughout 2011.
2012 sees a return tour in England during March for The St. Patrick’s Day Tour, a trip to Germany in May and back to Brittany in August for the Festival Interceltique de Lorient.
Thanks again for all your support and interest. We hope to see you at one of our future concerts.
